This July, Temple Residents Invited to a Play Date with Temple Parks & Recreation

Summer is here, which means it’s time to get your play on. This July, discover the power of play as Temple Parks & Recreation celebrates Park and Recreation Month. A variety of fun, low cost or free activities are planned for residents of all ages and abilities throughout the month — including the Big Day of Play kickoff event to be held in Wilson Park (2205 Curtis B Elliot Dr.) on Saturday, July 1st from 11-1pm.

The Big Day of Play is a free event for children and their families to go to the park, play games and enjoy time together outside. During the event Clark Pool (1808 Curtis B. Elliott Dr.) will also offer free admission to the swimming pool. The event is organized by Temple Parks & Recreation, which will also be providing free hotdogs, ice cream and lemonade to those who attend the celebration.

Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), celebrates parks and recreation’s power to transform our daily lives. From providing places to play, getting fit and staying healthy to fostering new relationships and forging a connection with nature, our close-to-home community park and recreation facilities provide essential services and improve quality of life.

Temple Parks & Recreation will celebrate Park and Recreation Month through various low cost or free activities throughout the entire month of July. A calendar of the month’s events and activities is available for download at

NRPA is celebrating the month by hosting a weekly contest encouraging people to show them why play is so important in their lives. Visit for more information on how to participate. Entries can be submitted via the hashtag #NRPAPlayChallenge. NRPA also encourages all people that support parks and recreation to share why they think play is so important with the hashtag #PlayOnJuly.
